I like this hitting drill,I’m going to start implementing it.

  8. 8 Dean Shelley Feb 18th, 2009 at 11:26 pm

Great drill, I think it will help the kids to understand how to put the ball in play where it needs to go, not just in the field of play!

  9. 9 Russ Feb 18th, 2009 at 11:32 pm

Have used this drill several times and it is a great drill for teaching a batter how to use their hands and to use the whole field. It also teaches patience on pitches away and to go with the pitch. Wonderful video demonstrating the drill.

  10. 10 Mike Harrison Feb 18th, 2009 at 11:52 pm

    Thanks Kenny,
Pretty to the point, this will work great for the younger just getting into the game as to understanding the hititing aspect of the game. Great video. it would be great to see more of these coming out, (fielding tips in/out field).

  11. 11 Coach DeVincentis Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:07 am

  12. 12 gary Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:20 am

I’ve used a similar drill last summer for my team (ages 11 and 12) and the kids loved it. It really helped the players go with the pitch and hit the ball to the opposite field.
Thanks, Kenny. I love receiving your tips and drills.

  13. 13 Ron Tate Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:49 am

Great job on the instructional video production format as well.

  16. 16 Reid Feb 19th, 2009 at 1:23 am

Although, I have 7 & 8 year olds, where I feel lucky when they make contact at all. I can see this drill helping those that have only 1 step. I’ve been trying to get them to go with the pitch and track it in the 3 different locations. I can see where I can implement this drill at our next practice on Saturday.

  17. 17 John Feb 19th, 2009 at 1:32 am

I haven’t been able to see either video. Am I the only one who cannot see these?

Which marvellous tool that these videos they enable us to correct our young people and their to show as it is necessary we are gaining has any point of view of congratulation Mr. Kenny.

  22. 22 Scott Feb 19th, 2009 at 5:51 am

Good Drill, a drill we already do, but the visuals of the balls in the contact area is a good idea. Thanks

  23. 23 Steve Feb 19th, 2009 at 5:53 am

Funny. Last night I flipped the L screen to give soft toss and instructed the players to try to shoot the pitch through the opening to my left when the pitch was outside…

  24. 24 Jeremy Feb 19th, 2009 at 5:57 am

I like this drill. It is definitely something we could use.

  25. 25 Steve Feb 19th, 2009 at 6:08 am

    We will use this

  26. 26 Michael Feb 19th, 2009 at 6:12 am

    Thanks

  34. 34 David Feb 19th, 2009 at 6:51 am

Very well done. Superb drill. Looking forward to applying it. Thanks a bunch.

  35. 35 Robert Feb 19th, 2009 at 6:52 am

If you want to enhance the concentration while developing the inside pitch approach - have the hitters wear a blind-fold over their right eye. It will force them not to “bail” their head out. Also, remember to introduce the blind-fold method with Whiffle balls, at first.

  36. 36 Anonymous Feb 19th, 2009 at 6:57 am

very good and basic for my 10,11,and 12 year olds

  37. 37 Anonymous Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:07 am

Will use this tonight @ batting practice.

  38. 38 Mike Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:12 am

Coach, Great drill. Front toss on a field is so much better than side toss as the ball comes at the hitter more like a game setting with a pitcher on the mound. Also, performing the drill on the field gives the hitter and coach a good perspective of the result of each swing and can adjust accordingly. Finally, a side benefit of soft toss is the hitter has to generate all the power to drive the ball which will reinforce the sequence of the swing and hitting the ball hard. Great job. Keep the drills coming.

  39. 39 Coach D Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:15 am

Good Drill to build in muscle memory, but the one pitch that is hardly worked on is that outside pitch.
In that video the batter is leaning towards the right side, which is wrong. The hitter must step as if he is striding like the two pitches practiced prior and just let the ball get deep and have the angle of the bat hit the ball to right.

    Thank you.

  40. 40 Randy Fisk Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:17 am

    Great Drill,
I will use this every practice. I have done a similar drill like this off a tee with the 15 year old.
Keep the drills coming. I really enjoy fresh new drills that work.

    Randy

  41. 41 Coach Tom Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:21 am

Great dril, this something that I can definitely use with the team! Keep the tip’s coming!

  42. 42 Leo LeVon Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:22 am

This is terrific. It should really help my players alot!!!!

  43. 43 Kurt McMinn Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:30 am

Nice. This is an awesome drill. I watched it and then used it. I had the on deck batter watch to see if the batter was swing at the right time and giving him feed back. The first time through I throw it in order. the second time I mixed it up. They all gave great feed back. Keepthe tips coming.

  44. 44 Tommy Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:47 am

Thanks this can be used on any level.

  45. 45 Paul Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:48 am

Enjoyed the video. Always looking for ways for the kids to “see” the ball better.
I need to get one of those safety fences for our Pony league.

  46. 46 BRYAN F. Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:57 am

GREAT DRILL, WILL HELP THE YOUNGER BATTERS GET AN UNDERSTANDING OF BOTH PITCH LOCATION, AND HITTING TO DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE FIELD. IT LOOKS LIKE IT MOVES VERY SMMOTHLY AND QUICKLY AS A DRILL TO HELP HOLD EVERONES ATTENTION.

  47. 47 mark Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:00 am

on the outside ball drill, the hitter was stepping towards the plate to compensate for the pitch location. Should have been corrected. While drills are nice, such as these, if executed improperly can result in further problems.

  48. 48 Kyle Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:09 am

I think this will help younger hitters drive the ball to the opposite field. They tend to struggle in this area.

  49. 49 Coach Matt Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:10 am

Nice drill. Horrible execution. Notice where the front foot lands on each pitch location. A batter wont have enough time to step into an outside pitch like that.

  50. 50 Coach Heas Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:11 am

Another great video to get a hitter to think during practice so they can just react during the game.

  51. 51 Troy Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:18 am

Great drill. Thanks for the information.

  52. 52 Coach Rick Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:20 am

I agree with Coach D. This is a great drill, but coaches must make sure their hitters remain consistant with their stride location toward the pitcher. The hitter in this video is almost stepping on the inside corner of the plate to reach the outside pitch. Letting the ball get deep and training your muscle memory to wait on the outside pitch is KEY in being able to hit the ball to the opposite field.

  53. 53 albert Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:26 am

definetly will use as a warm up drill also

  54. 54 Coach Chip Ravaglia Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:27 am

I have been using a similar drill for years and it definitely does improve the hitting of a team.

  55. 55 Dan Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:30 am

Great Drill. Practicing the inside pitch also helps the player that is tentative about being hit by the pitch.

    Coach Dan

  56. 56 shane powell Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:31 am

this seems like a good drill that i will try at our next practice. i feel it is important for the hitter not to do do to much and just go with the pitch, this drill will help them realize this.

  57. 57 Keith Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:33 am

This A great drill coach K. Look forward to trying it

  58. 58 Keith Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:36 am

This is A great drill coach K. Look forward to trying it

  59. 59 Dan Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:42 am

I will be using this drill on the first hitting practice we have.

  60. 60 Mark Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:43 am

Great drill coach K. Will definately be using this in the coming months.

  61. 61 shane powell Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:44 am

the one question i have is we need some drills to improve bat speed. im sure you can help.

  62. 62 DAN PERRY Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:46 am

I love it. So many coaches preach to young players to hit the ball deep in the plate which is not good advise on an inside pitch. This driil is a great way to teach a young hitter hoe to “cover” the plate. I’d like to see a drill that helps improve recognizing early pitch location. Thanks

  63. 63 Don Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:47 am

Always knew the principle but never knew how to put into words or demonstrate. Thanks for the idea.

  64. 64 coach Burnett Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:49 am

thanx again for all the help excellent video This video shows the thinking about ball placement instead of just swinging when kids are at the plate

  65. 65 Randy McDonald Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:50 am

Great dril. Keep them coming Coach Kenny!

  66. 66 deron Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:51 am

great drill will be using it thanks

  67. 67 Darrell Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:53 am

This is a good drill. I do something like it but like the idea of using balls placed so they can see where they are hitting in reference. Keep them videos coming. Thanks

  68. 68 Dwayne Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:00 am

    Really like this drill, Thanks

  69. 69 Joe F Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:08 am

    Great drill thank you

  70. 70 Matt Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:11 am

Great drill going to use it today. Thanks, Bombers Baseball

  71. 71 JIM SZABO Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:19 am

I LOVE THIS ONE, IT REALLY HELPS THE KIDS FOCUS ON BEING ABLE TO GO WITH THE PITCH, ESPECIALLY ON A FREE SWING

  72. 72 Coach Adams Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:23 am

good drill. But, with a team of 30 guys, you can only have one batter at a time hitting at home plate using the front toss and getting that complete experience of seeing where the ball goes on the field. The others will have to be at the regular soft toss stations receiving the toss from the side and hitting into the net. Good drill.

  73. 73 Nelson Suarez Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:28 am

Thanks for the great drills . I’m always looking for good drills to pass on to my players. I have a question if you don’t mind answering? I have a player that opens his hips to early or his top half and bottom half are not square to the plate at contact. Are his hands dragging behind ? I’ve tried driffrent drills to try to correct it with little scucces. Do have any ideas or drills I can use? Thanks for your time and your drills ! Nelson

  74. 74 Glenn Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:30 am

I like to show young hitters where on the bat they would hit an outside pitch if they tried to pull it & hit out in front of the plate [off the end of the bat]. Also if they are late on the inside pitch they will hit it off the handle.

  75. 75 David Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:33 am

Great drills and they will come in handy. Any suggestions on curve ball hitting or any drills that will help espeicially with breaking ball? Thanks again!!

  76. 76 Ryan Norton Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:33 am

This looks like a great drill and a great way to look at hitters swings. Thank you and keep them coming.

  77. 77 Dave Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:34 am

Coach, I always enjoy seeing video and drills. This drill is good, however, needs some quality instruction. First, you should probably address position in the box. Ball placement is obviously going to be affected by this, and also an individual hitters load, stride length, or width of base will affect this. In this clip the hitter is up in front of the plate, a poor position. Email me if you would like more detailed descriptions on where to position in box and why? The hitter also alters his swing and stride direction on the outside pitch. Further, I would never start by hitting the inside pitch, but would either work middle or away to faciltiate hands inside and timing. It is much more difficult to wait and hit it the other way than to go get it out front. Perhaps, a little more explanation of where to posititon in the box and why, where to hit the ball as it relates to the position of the hitter, as opposed the plate, and some instruction on how to hit the outside pitch with the same swing mechanics are in order. Like any drill, correct execution is the key.

    Thanks.

  78. 78 John Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:43 am

    good video, great drill.

  79. 79 Carl Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:44 am

Thank’s coach! The 8 hitting mistakes video as well as all others has been most helpful. This will be my first year to coach lead off and pitchers having to hold runners. Any advise?

  80. 80 Steve Feb 19th, 2009 at 10:07 am

Great drill! I like the way it helps to teach how to properly hit an inside and outside pitch.

  81. 81 Dennis K Feb 19th, 2009 at 10:08 am

Keep them coming. Always enjoy looking at another coaches style. Thanks

  82. 82 Paul B Feb 19th, 2009 at 10:29 am

Good drill, will incorporate into our practice schedule. I will also try to get film of players doing the drill. Its great to have the kids get a visual.

    Thanks

  83. 83 Eric Waln Feb 19th, 2009 at 10:31 am

Awesome - We had always done the drill where we stand behind the batter and toss balls out in front of the plate to determine whether they are picking the ball up properly and then hitting it where it is pitched. That seems to be too advanced for younger ages, but this looks like a great drill for younger and older. Now, i just need to get that L screen tightened up.lol

  84. 84 Coach Fisher Feb 19th, 2009 at 10:41 am

Great drill! Look forward to using it in a couple of weeks. The snow on the mountains looks great!

  85. 85 B in B Feb 19th, 2009 at 10:50 am

Nelson, I have a couple of kids on my team that did the same thing, hips flying open, losing power and no chance at the outside pitch. One thing I noticed was that they were striding too far. I worked off a tee, placed the ball outside and worked with them not striding, just taking a fairly wide stance, keeping square and making solid contact, focusing on backside pivot for power. Front foot close until hips turn. Took time but worked, remember they will have to do right more times than they did it wrong for it to really work. Good Luck!

  86. 86 Kari Feb 19th, 2009 at 10:58 am

I know there is a difference between and fastpitch softball swing and a baseball swing although the mechanics are very similar. Do you make videos on softball swings?

  87. 87 Steven Dickey Feb 19th, 2009 at 11:04 am

Great drill. However, if you noticed on the drill, the hitter was “cheating” with his stride foot. It was very clear on the outside pitch. He was almost out of the box. I would keep an eye on my players stride during this drill, as you don’t want to develop a bad habit. The stride foot goes the same place every time, or you become a “guess” hitter.

  88. 88 Don Feb 19th, 2009 at 11:26 am

    Great Video.

  89. 89 Bryan Dervin Feb 19th, 2009 at 11:28 am

great stuff keep it comming I well use it now

  90. 90 Robert Feb 19th, 2009 at 11:33 am

An excellent! way to visually demonstrate proper hand position and contact point. Will definatley incorporate this into practice for my 11 - 12 year olds.

  91. 91 tony grillo Feb 19th, 2009 at 11:36 am

    great drill, keep them coming

  92. 92 Steve Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

AWESOME drill… definitely goint to use this one!!!

  93. 93 Warren Fishback Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

    Coach,

I’m a player always trying to be a better hitter. I’m working towards playing college baseball. Thanks for the great drills!

    Warren Fishback

  94. 94 William G Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:10 pm

The guys, as I point out have an average age of 68, were please to view the first vidio. I am sure they will be learning from this one also.

  95. 95 Joe Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:19 pm

Good stuff, like the lay out of the balls. Will definately use this drill TODAY.

  96. 96 joe Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Thanks for the last two videos, they will very helpful, keep them coming!

  97. 97 TR Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:32 pm

This is great, natural progression from using the tee in these hitting areas. Next practice.

  98. 98 Steve Campbell Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:45 pm

Great drill. The coach can keep an eye on the batters stride while staying behind the L screen.
It would help to have someone else off to the side of the batter watching where contact is made.

  99. 99 D Trannon Feb 19th, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Does everyone but my son’s team have a protective fence? Gereat drill but I can see my son’s coach using it because they do not have a fence.

  100. 100 clk216@verizon.net Feb 19th, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Can you give me some tips on teaching players 15 and 16 On Hittinthe curve ball
I teach looking for the dot on the ball and the spin !! Also the height !!
What can make it esier ????

  101. 101 COACH TONY Feb 19th, 2009 at 1:35 pm

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS DRILL. KEEP SENDING OUT THESE VIDEO’S.

  102. 102 Randy L Atkinson Feb 19th, 2009 at 2:15 pm

KENNY: GREAT DRILL !!! We have used that one before, but not as much as I would like to.
It is tough to jam everything into a 90 minute practice. I wish we could go 3 hours; but
the parents would have my head (Little League Majors).
thanks again, Coach Randy Oceanside, CALIF

  103. 103 Thomas Feb 19th, 2009 at 2:24 pm

I like this drill — the simpler the better. When I’m dealing with 8 and 9 year olds trying to keep them engaged, this one will work great. Do you have a DVD with all of these drills? I’d buy it! Thanks!

  104. 104 Lou Feb 19th, 2009 at 2:25 pm

    Super. Please send the others.

  105. 105 Jeff W Feb 19th, 2009 at 2:55 pm

I really like this drill. I have been trying to emphasize to my 10 year olds to not pull the outside pitch and I think this will help. Thanks!

  106. 106 Chipper25 Feb 19th, 2009 at 3:14 pm

    Coach,

Great drill it gives a fantastic demonstration to all hitters that there are more hitting zones than just the inside pitch to pull. This drill will help them along to use the whole field to hit.

  107. 107 Doug B Feb 19th, 2009 at 3:23 pm

This will be a good drill we can start working in while inside until the snow melts. These are great please continue this venue for delivering baseball content.

  108. 108 Rick del Rio Feb 19th, 2009 at 3:57 pm

Very simple and easy to explain to the younger ballplayers. Looking forward to more videos

  109. 109 John F Feb 19th, 2009 at 4:36 pm

Another tool to put in my tool box. You juts neber know which one of these drills my turn the light on.

  110. 110 John Feb 19th, 2009 at 4:53 pm

Grea drill my only question is the batters cntact points. I have always heard that a pitch down the middle is hit at the front of the stride foot, inside pitch around 10 ” in front of the stride foot and the outside pitch is hit about as deep as the belly button to back hip. Doesn’t look like this is what the hitter is doing. Is this an oversight or is there nother train of thought at work here?

  111. 111 Rodrigo Feb 19th, 2009 at 5:01 pm

I love yout drills and they are helping me to become a better coach! Thanks for the information. Keep em’ coming. Muchas Gracias!!

  114. 114 woolsey Feb 19th, 2009 at 5:14 pm

kenny, looks good on video will have to try when we get outdoors. my concern is younger players will be looking at baseballs on plate & not coming off pitchers hand. but that’s why we call it practice. thank you! bill

  115. 115 Kevin E Feb 19th, 2009 at 5:19 pm

This is a great drill but as another coach said the foot work it really important to watch while the kids aer practicing this drill.

  116. 116 Rick Feb 19th, 2009 at 5:33 pm

This is a graet drill, but I would start with tee work on the exact same contact zones for the three pitch locations. The hitter needs to understand the swing path to the ball and the purpose of letting the outside pitch getting deeper in the zone. Having the hitter understand why you contact the ball in these zones speeds the learning curve. Also, your positioning in the box is key. It’s a lot to cover for short video segments but quality instruction is what you want to deliver.
    Thanks,

  117. 117 Derick B. Feb 19th, 2009 at 5:35 pm

These are great drills that I will incorporate into my practices. Keep em comming!

  118. 118 Tom B. Feb 19th, 2009 at 5:57 pm

Simple drill that I will incorporate into our hitting sessions. Please keep all these great ideas coming!
    Tom

  119. 119 Dave Feb 19th, 2009 at 6:02 pm

    Coach,

Good video,. this one will go fine with other drills to help the kids. Keep the newsletters coming great information.

    Dave

  120. 120 Shane Feb 19th, 2009 at 6:57 pm

    great video! keep them coming

  121. 121 Glenn Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:10 pm

Also to simulate off speed pitches the coach can bounce a few in.This helps the hitter stay back on off speed stuff. This works best on a hard surface [indoors], or you can use some type of softer ball [RIF 5]. Glenn Scalia

  122. 122 jared barwick Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:22 pm

great drill I believe firmly in short work.keep sending.you can never learn to much about this awesome game.

  123. 123 Coach Don Feb 19th, 2009 at 7:52 pm

Awesome drill, will definitely use at next practice. Like to see more

  124. 124 R Maxwell Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:23 pm

This works great. I have been working with a minor leagur who is in Single A and the outside pitches are what have been hurting him. He made an immediate improvement and I look forward to seeing how his season goes. Kenny, keep the videos comin’.

  125. 125 Allan Quan Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:23 pm

I’m definetly going to us this drill for my U12 team. Great information for young coaches.

  126. 126 Steele Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:24 pm

Outstanding drill one that actually helps track the ball. Most players really don’t learn this until high school, and in some cases that kills their self esteem if they don’t get it right away.

  127. 127 Allan Quan Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:26 pm

Do have any videos for pithching and fielding drills. Exited to start using these hitting drills

  128. 128 Coach Rubi Feb 19th, 2009 at 8:54 pm

Very Cool. I have never seen this drill. I can see how it would improve a players plate coverage. Thanks for the tip.

Great video. Thanks. Keep em coming.

  134. 134 Shane Feb 19th, 2009 at 10:21 pm

I love the concept of this drill it simplifies the direction of travel on the ball when hit early as well as later.

  135. 135 Coach Mel Feb 19th, 2009 at 11:00 pm

I agree with Dave, above, (Dave Feb 19th, 2009 at 9:34 am). But with a caveat…. the hands will always be inside the ball. If not, the batter will get hit on the hands or wrists with the ball. “hands inside the ball” is a misnomer. Same with “hands to the ball”. Most kids take you literally with this statements. If you go “hands to the ball” then where will the sweet spot of the bat be? Outside of the strike zone. Think about.
People please do your research, you have a responsibility to your athletes and to the game.

    P.s.
The dimensions of the bases are 15” x 15” square 3”-5” thick, and home plate shall be marked by a five sided slab of whitened rubber. It shall be a 17 inch square with two of the corners removed so that one edge is 17 inches long, two adjacent sides are 8 1/2 inches and the remaining two sides are 12 inches and set at an angle to make a point. It shall be set in the ground with the point at the intersection of the lines extending from home base to first base and to third {base;} with the 17 inch edge facing the pitcher’s plate, and the two 12 inch edges coinciding with the first and third base lines. The top edges of home base shall be beveled and the base shall be fixed in the ground level with the ground surface. For the most part these dimensions (bases and home plate) are universal throughout the baseball and softball, with field dimensions having the variable.

    Coach Mel

  136. 136 Coach Alex Feb 19th, 2009 at 11:12 pm

Like the idea of the drill.I’ll try it this weekend and let you know how it goes

  137. 137 Chris Feb 19th, 2009 at 11:34 pm

Great Drill! I like the visual of having the balls on the ground so the kids know where they should hit the ball.

  138. 138 Ron Feb 20th, 2009 at 12:10 am

Visual reference points are a very good way to combine the physical mechanics of your swing with the results a batter is working to achieve.

  139. 139 Anonymous Feb 20th, 2009 at 12:30 am

Great video! This has really helped my boys in hitting to the opposite field!

  140. 140 Derrick Feb 20th, 2009 at 1:20 am

Thank you Kenny, the video is very informative and instructional. I’ll be using it at my next practice.

  141. 141 Ric Feb 20th, 2009 at 5:25 am

Great to see other coaches using this drill that I’ve used for many years. It’s a great educational drill for youth players. Keep up the good work with the video drills, really enjoy them.

  142. 142 Big Mike Feb 20th, 2009 at 6:39 am

Great Drill! I’ll try it…see how it works with 10 yr. olds

  143. 143 George Galloway Feb 20th, 2009 at 8:00 am

Like it and will use early on this season with respect to gaining understanding of where to hit and intentions of going with ball…
Can you share the other hitting drill video’s that we might share with kids?

  144. 144 Josh Feb 20th, 2009 at 9:15 am

I really like that it is a simple drill that covers and resembles a real game situation. There are so many drills and tricks out there but are hard to convert to a game situation. This is easy to incorporate in a cage or on the field as well, and I could see adding fielders, or making a fun competition out of it too. Thanks!

  145. 145 Sam Feb 20th, 2009 at 9:40 am

These are great references for the kids. Really, it can be done when thery are even in 4th and 5th grades when you are teaching them to swing and they aer strong enough to handle a bat at all. You have to make sure the kids don’t cheat like the kid in the video. I try to not let my kids step to the right so much that they are out of the batters box. Their stride should start straight at the pitcher every pitch and then adjust where you hit the ball. this kid does it well for the most part, but I also don’t want my kids timing pitches. i want the front foot down prior to starting all of the weight forward.

  146. 146 Darren Feb 20th, 2009 at 10:00 am

Great Drill. We will start to using the drill this Season

  148. 148 Coach Coburn Feb 20th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

This drill is a great drill to help the hitters stay inside the ball also it helps them learn to hit the ball to all fields. Send more drills I love watching them. When a coach thinks he knows everything he should stop coaching!!!

  170. 170 Al Feb 22nd, 2009 at 7:22 am

Nice Drill. I liked the positioning of the balls on the ground to show the hitter where in relationship to the plate he should strike the ball. This goes along way with 10 year olds.

  171. 171 Scott Feb 22nd, 2009 at 8:51 am

Great video. Leaving the balls on the ground is a great reference for the batter and the coach. Please send more. Thank you.

  172. 172 Tracy B Feb 22nd, 2009 at 11:49 am

being a first time coach, I think these drills are great.

  173. 173 coach john Feb 22nd, 2009 at 12:01 pm

absoluteley one of the best drills.any good hitter can go to any part of the field when “going with the pitch”. but; the only catch is to have patience.

  174. 174 coach john Feb 22nd, 2009 at 12:03 pm

all your techniques are very helpful. as an ex pro player.i can justify your entire porfolio with all your drills are correct and can only improve any players game.

  175. 175 frank Saulnier Feb 22nd, 2009 at 12:06 pm

Coach kenny would you explain ‘hands inside the ball’

    Frank

  176. 176 Tom Costa Feb 22nd, 2009 at 1:25 pm

Ken thanks for the info, was just at a clinic put on by Cal and Billy Ripken where they discussed this drill. They are big believers in working in front of the hitters when doing soft toss if possible. They are also big believers in using the center of the field to hit the ball. Left center, right center and up the middle.

    Thanks again Tom

  177. 177 David Feb 22nd, 2009 at 1:31 pm

Coach Kenny just wanted to let you that this year I will be using these drills with my little league team. I need to know how to teach a pitcher how to create a pick off move and what to loom for when teaching stealing and leading off.

  178. 178 GW Feb 22nd, 2009 at 6:26 pm

    Thanks. Nice simple drill.

  179. 179 Coach Rey Feb 22nd, 2009 at 8:18 pm

  189. 189 Ken L Feb 23rd, 2009 at 5:04 pm

Enjoyed the video. Always good to add new drills to our practice plans. Thanks for sharing.

  190. 190 coach delgado Feb 23rd, 2009 at 7:05 pm

great drill never thought of placing the ball on the ground good mental pic.

  191. 191 Coach Jeff Feb 23rd, 2009 at 9:36 pm

    Coach Kenny
This is really good stuff. I plan to use the drill. The reference points are a great too. I also wonder about the stride (stepping into the ball). We have been teaching very little front foot movement, only lifting up and down with a little wider stance(similar to (Pujols). I noticed the hitter striding into the ball the way I was taught in the 70’s. Let me know which is correct.

  192. 192 rick Feb 23rd, 2009 at 10:08 pm

    Coach Kenny
Thanks for all the free tips you send out, some of your drills have really worked great with my
ten year olds, as far as the video goes i am all for the one dollar price anyway, thanks for your help

  193. 193 Coach Joe Murray Feb 23rd, 2009 at 10:52 pm

Great Video! Sell it for $1.00. The more coaches and players know, the better for the game of baseball. The folks at WalMart did pretty good at low priced products on a massive scale. I am sure with this type of quality instruction Coach Ken will do alright too.

  194. 194 Mark Ketelhut Feb 23rd, 2009 at 10:58 pm

Great video — this is a drill that will work with a wide variety of age groups. Thanks

    MK

    Makes perfect sense. Nice demonstration

  196. 196 jamie robinson Feb 25th, 2009 at 12:15 am

i love the 3 ball drills. my son watched it with me and he said now i know what you you are talking about. i have been trying to say it to him about getting his hands inside the ball. and it was so easy for him to pick up because i was saying it but now he can see it. thanks is great. thanks alot jamie

  197. 197 Alan Love Feb 25th, 2009 at 7:17 am

  202. 202 Aaron Feb 26th, 2009 at 3:48 pm

This is my first year coaching and I have been researching for good practice drills for my team at the 8-10 year level. Not having a good practice routine has been frustrating for myself and the players as well. This drill has turned our practice time into a productive time for myself and the team. I have seen improvements almost instantly , even for the star players who thought they didnt need any improvements. Thank you for sharing this information, I will be sure to take full advantage of all the coaching techniques available.

  203. 203 Rafael Maldonado Feb 27th, 2009 at 12:55 am

I like the drill, front toss drill #6. However, for all those coaches that like this drill and apply this to future practices make sure you watch your players stride. In this video the batter is striding different for each pitch. When the pitch is inside he would step a little open. On the middle pitch he would step straight. The outside pitch he was diving in and almost out of the batters box.The drill is good, but the batter can not cheat. He or she has to have a consistant stride or step. He or she is not quick enough to recognize the pitch to be able to step out, straight or in. I like the drill and the visual of the point of contact.

  204. 204 Eddie Feb 28th, 2009 at 3:38 am

Like Ralph M says (27FEB09), the stride is important as well. GREAT DRILL! I’m implementing this in my practices as well…coaches, Coach Kenny, what is a good drill for the proper stride for the inside pitch, down the middle, outside corner? POST in these pages if okay w/Coach.

  205. 205 JMW Feb 28th, 2009 at 8:53 am

$1 sounds fantastic. I would take it in a heartbeat. Thanks

  206. 206 Doug Mar 1st, 2009 at 8:38 pm

    Kenny,
I am coaching my sons 9-10 year old team this year. While I have been a coach for the past 8 years in Tball and Coach Pitch leagues for my other kids, I am very much looking forward to being able to instruct these 9-10 year olds with some great techniques that your videos provide.
I cannot wait to see the looks on their faces when with a little tweaking from these videos…they will be hitting the ball with more power. It’s much more fun to run the bases after smacking the ball vs. sitting on the pine after a strikeout.

Thanks Coach Kenny for a great opportunity.

    Coach Doug

  207. 207 Lonnie Gallegos Mar 3rd, 2009 at 12:43 am

I really enjoyed the drill. I believe it will help in so many ways. I cannot wait to put it to good use. Thank you for all of your help.

    Coach Lonnie

  208. 208 Coach CL Mar 3rd, 2009 at 7:33 am

I like the video and the drill, but I do have a concern. I coach 11-12 year olds and we play in an “O-Zone” league. 70 ft bases and mound is 50 ft. from home plate. There are some pitchers in the league that can flat out bring it. This drill teaches how to read the ball and where to hit it, but I need ideas and/or drills on how to get the kids to hit fastballs in a split second. Any ideas?

  209. 209 Pam Mar 3rd, 2009 at 12:44 pm

I can’t see any of the videos either. Any ideas on why?

    podemos aprender bastante gracias

  215. 215 Kevin Chavez Mar 18th, 2009 at 7:35 am

I think think this is a super follw-up drill to use after players do some of the tee-drill I use with them. It makes so much more sense than the side soft toss drill.

  216. 216 Ron Mulkey Mar 21st, 2009 at 9:01 am

I really liked the video. I’ve used the three ball scenario for the batting tee but never in the format on the video. I think it’s a great way for me to further emphasize what I’ve taught on the tee. Thanks
